BTCD Chief Wayne Tormala and the Director of the Arizona Smokers’ Helpline Stephen Michael, visited the KXXT 1010am studios to discuss tobacco and mental health. Approximately 100,000 tobacco users have a mental illness. This represents nearly 2/3 of all people in AZ diagnosed with mental illness. Tobacco use among mental health professionals is even disproportionately high with nearly 1/3 of them smoking. The adult smoking prevalence rate in AZ is approx. 16%.
