Take part in Great American Smoke Out
Arizona has one of the lowest rates of smokers in the country at just 16% of the population smoking compared to about 21% nationally.
“Our numbers are good,” says Wayne Tormala Bureau Chief for Tobacco and Chronic Disease at the Arizona Department of Health Services . “But we also know all the ‘low hanging fruit’ is gone and the remaining smokers in Arizona are all hard to reach.”
Which makes easy-to access “quit tips” and “health improvements from quitting,” found at www.ashline.org , extremely valuable to smokers.
Smokers will quit between 5-7 times before being on their way to a life free from tobacco addiction, and even then will need lifetime support.
In Arizona, residents can access the state’s smokers’ helpline, the Arizona Smokers’ Helpline, 1-800-55-66-222 or www.ashline.org , It is recognized nationally as an industry leader boasting a 37 percent quit rate, whereas other quitlines have rates of just 19-29 percent of clients successfully quit.
